Blau.Quartier: Donation of 29,000 euros from operating surpluses of the Blautal Center presented to Ulmer Bürger Stiftung
The “Blautal Center” will soon be history. As part of one of the largest real estate conversion projects in Germany, the shopping mall on Blaubeurer Straße will be transformed into the new, mixed-use “Blau.Quartier” over the estimated next ten years. After the Blautal Center advertising association was wound up at the end of 2022, an operating surplus remained, which the members of the advertising association intend to donate to a charitable purpose.
This donation was presented today by representatives of the owner company DLE Land Development GmbH (DLE) and HLG Real Estate GmbH, the project developer responsible for the Blau.Quartier project. A cheque for 29,000 euros was handed over by Gerlinde Ritouet-Steiner, Senior Development Manager at DLE and Christian Diesen, Managing Director of HLG, to Martin Ansbacher, Lord Mayor of the City of Ulm, in his capacity as Chairman of the Board of Ulmer Bürger Stiftung.
Martin Ansbacher commented on the donation of the Blautal Center: “The shopping center has shaped the image of Blaubeurer Straße for more than two decades. At the time, it was one of the largest of its kind in southern Germany and was considered groundbreaking. This era is coming to an end and now, with the Blau.Quartier, another forward-looking project is being built on the same site, this time planned for the long term as a vibrant urban quarter with more than 1,000 apartments. In my view, the donation also symbolizes the contribution of the ‘old’ Ulm to the ‘future’ Ulm. The fact that the Blautal Center was opened just two months after the Ulm Citizens’ Foundation was established is probably a twinkle in history’s eye.”
Christian Diesen adds on behalf of the owner company: “We also see this donation as a sign of our clear commitment to the city of Ulm. It is an exciting and honorable task for us to create another living space for the city that is equipped for the future with the realization of this quarter. Precisely because we are aware of our responsibility to the city, the Ulmer Bürger Stiftung is an obvious and excellent address for today’s donation.”
According to its statutes, the foundation, which was established in 1997, promotes community work in Ulm and supports projects that make an exemplary contribution to the cohesion of the city’s society. The reason for its establishment was the 600th anniversary of the proclamation of the Great Pledge of the City of Ulm.
